Citigroup has revealed that its internal deployment of artificial intelligence tools is saving developers approximately 100,000 hours every week.

The announcement, made by CEO Jane Fraser during the bank’s Q3 2025 earnings call, highlights the growing role of generative AI and automation in transforming enterprise workflows and boosting operational efficiency.

Citigroup AI Tools Reshape Developer Workflows

According to Jane, the time savings stem from the use of internal AI platforms such as Citi Assist, Citi Stylus, and Citi Squad, which support tasks like coding, debugging, documentation, and workflow automation.

These tools are designed to reduce manual effort and accelerate development cycles across the bank’s global technology teams.

Nearly 180,000 employees across 83 countries now have access to these AI systems, which are embedded into Citigroup’s internal infrastructure.

The bank has made AI prompt training mandatory for relevant teams, positioning it as a core component of employee development and digital transformation.

Strategic Investment in AI and Talent

Jane emphasized that the AI rollout is part of a broader strategy to modernize Citigroup’s operations and empower its workforce.

“This isn’t just about saving time—it’s about changing how we work, think, and innovate,” she told analysts.

The bank views AI not as a replacement for human talent, but as a tool to enhance productivity and free up capacity for higher-value tasks.

The initiative is also helping Citigroup respond to growing client demands for faster, more personalized services.

By automating routine development work, teams can focus on building new products, improving security, and refining customer experience.
