Amazon HR rejects 30,000 employees’ petition on return to office

Earlier, Amazon had asked employees to be in the office at least three days a week from May 1. The company informed the employees through Amazon’s blog, and chief executive Andy Jassy wrote the decision that was taken at a meeting.

However, at the time of the announcement the company had to finalize the details for implementing the mandate. The company was planning to be flexible as it brings thousands of its employees back from remote work.

Chief Executive Andy Jassy wrote, “Some of the best inventions have had their breakthrough moments from people staying behind in a meeting and working through ideas on a whiteboard or walking back to an office together on the way back from the meeting.”

According to India Today, On the same concern, Amazon’s nearly 30,000 employees had signed a petition against a return-to-office plan that was announced recently.

In the petition, the employee had argued against the return to office mandate plans. Amazon’s HR chief flatly rejected an internal petition against the new return-to-office policy. Beth Galetti, SVP of People Experience and Technology at Amazon wrote that the company still intends to move forward with its return to office plan.

Beth Galetti wrote, ” As mentioned in Andy’s update, the guiding principle used in our decision-making was to prioritize what would enable us to make our customers’ lives better and easier every day, and relentlessly invent to do so.”

“Given the large size of our workforce and our wide range of businesses and customers, we recognize this transition may take time, but we are confident it will result in long-term benefits to increasing our ability to deliver for our customers, bolstering our culture, and growing and developing employees”, Beth Galetti added.

The company still intends that the company needs to work from the office at least three times a week starting in May as announced earlier.
