Britannia to raise its women workforce to 50% by 2024

An Indian company specializing in the food industry, Britannia will raise its women’s current workforce to 50% by 2024.

Britannia currently employs 41 percentĀ of the women workforce. Additionally, the company has about 1,400 workers in its Madurai unit of which 65 percent comprise women.

Britannia will be increasing the women’s workforce strength of this unit to 70 percent by 2024. The company focuses on diversity as an important pillar of Britannia’s sustainability framework.

Head of Manufacturing, Owned Factories, Indranil Gupta said, “They are more hygienic, and more suitable for these types of jobs, which is an important requirement in food-making facilities, and disciplined compared to male workers.”

“Having a higher representation of women has benefitted the plant operations by increasing efficiency and productivity while it has also helped in reducing attrition”, Indranil Gupta added.

The employees at the company are encouraged to do more with less and strive for excellence in their jobs. Britannia is also a socially responsible organization with a strong sustainability agenda to address malnutrition in marginalized communities of the country and provides platforms to employees to add purpose to their contribution.

Britannia has 15 company-owned manufacturing plants and 35 contract and franchisee units across India. The company has a workforce of over one lakh people.
