In a heart-wrenching turn of events, Anna Sebastian Perayil, a young and promising professional, lost her life due to alleged work stress at EY.

Anna had recently joined EY as an Audit & Assurance Executive in Pune, but her journey was tragically cut short.

Her grieving mother, Anita Augustine, has penned a heartfelt letter to EY’s India chief, Rajiv Memani, seeking answers and accountability.

The Allegations

Anna, a diligent and accomplished individual, had passed her CA exams in November 2023. Full of dreams and excitement, she embarked on her professional journey at EY Pune on March 19, 2024.

As her first job, EY represented prestige and opportunity. However, just four months later, on July 20, 2024, tragedy struck, leaving her family shattered.

Anita Augustine blames work stress at EY for her daughter’s untimely demise. In her heartfelt letter, she highlights the following concerns:

Overwhelming Workload: Anna was burdened with backbreaking work, often working day and night—even on Sundays. The pressure placed on newcomers like her was unjustifiable.

Adjusting to a new organization, city, and language, Anna struggled to cope with both assigned and unassigned tasks.

Lack of Consideration: Anita emphasizes that management should show more consideration to new employees. Instead, Anna’s inexperience was exploited, leading to an unsustainable workload.

A Wake-Up Call for EY

The tragic death of this young professional has raised serious questions about workplace practices at EY. Anita’s letter serves as a plea for change—to prevent other families from enduring similar pain.

EY must reflect on its policies and ensure the well-being of its employees, especially those new to the organization.
