According to Ministry of Labour and Employment, the provisional payroll data of ESIC shows that 16.47 lakh new employees were added in April 2024, a decline from 17.88 lakh new additions in April 2023.

Moreover, the ESIC data for April 2023 revealed that approximately 30,249 new establishments were registered and included under the social security coverage of the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation. This indicates a significant expansion of coverage within the ESIC framework during that period.

On the other hand, approximately 18,490 new establishments were included under the social security ambit of the ESI Scheme in April 2024, thereby extending social security benefits to a larger number of workers.

The data highlights significant job creation for the nation’s youth, with 7.84 lakh employees, accounting for approximately 47.60% of the total registrations of 16.47 lakh added in April. This indicates a substantial portion of new job opportunities targeting individuals up to 25 years old, contributing positively to youth employment in the country.

In April 2024, the gender-wise analysis of ESIC payroll data revealed a net enrolment of 3.38 lakh female members, continuing the trend from April 2023 when 3.53 lakh female members were enrolled. This consistency underscores ESIC’s commitment to gender diversity in its membership.

Moreover, ESIC’s inclusivity extends to transgender individuals, with 53 employees registered under the ESI Scheme in April 2024.
