This year, GCCs and IT product companies have taken the lead in campus placements at top engineering colleges, surpassing traditional IT service firms.

This shift is driven by higher salaries, better work-life balance, and clearer career paths offered by GCCs.

GCCs are offering starting salaries of Rs 6 lakh per year, which is significantly higher than what traditional IT service firms are offering.

Additionally, GCCs provide weekly two days off and the status of being a multinational company (MNC), which are attractive to students.

This has led to a noticeable increase in the number of students receiving packages above Rs 20 lakh, rising from 70 last year to 94 this year.

Preference for GCCs

Students from top engineering colleges such as Anna University, SSN College of Engineering, and Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) are showing a strong preference for GCCs.

At Anna University, out of 684 job offers received till November 30, 253 were from GCCs and IT product companies, making up more than 35% of the total offers.

Similarly, VIT reported that 50% of the 8,000 job offers received this year came from GCCs, with expectations that this could rise to 70% by the end of the placement season.

Traditional IT service firms, including TCS, have seen a decline in their campus recruitment numbers.

For instance, TCS issued only 95 offers at Anna University, and one of the top IT service companies offered less than Rs 4 lakh per year, which did not attract many students.

The slowdown in hiring by IT service companies last year has also contributed to this trend.

Feedback from Seniors and Coding Platforms

Feedback from seniors who have worked in GCCs has played a significant role in attracting more students to these companies.

Students who work in product development in GCCs enjoy better work-life balance and career opportunities.

Additionally, the availability of coding platforms for practice has helped students secure offers from GCCs.

The trend of Global Capability Centres dominating campus placements is not limited to engineering colleges.

Arts and science colleges in Chennai, such as Loyola College, have also witnessed an increase in job offers from Global Capability Centres.

These companies are recruiting for finance and accounting, and business analyst roles, further expanding their reach.
