Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has announced the hike in the Dearness Allowance (DA) by 4 percent for government employees including teachers, pensioners and family pensioners.

CM Stalin said that it would benefit about 16 lakh staff. The decision was taken after considering the representation of government employees. The DA would now be increased from 34 percent to 38 percent with immediate effect. This has come as a new year gift for the employees.

CM Stalin said, “The state will incur a loss of Rs 2,359 crore on an annual basis.”

“But, considering the welfare of the government employees, teachers, and pensions the state will bear the cost,” CM Stalin added.

This move would entail an additional annual expenditure of Rs 2,359 crore. Terming the DA hike a ‘New Year gift,’ the government has appealed to the staff to cooperate with the government in its efforts aimed at people’s welfare and prosperity.
