Citi Appoints Dr. Tooba as CHRO for India & Indian Subcontinent

Citi has announced the appointment of Dr. Tooba Modassir as its Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) for India and the Indian Subcontinent, which includes Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.

In addition to her CHRO responsibilities, she will serve as the Banking HR Advisor for the region, overseeing HR strategy and operations for Citi’s workforce of over 34,000 employees.

Dr. Tooba will work closely with Arun Mirchandani, Asia South Cluster and Banking HR Head at Citi, to drive HR transformation, talent development, and inclusive leadership across the region.

Her appointment reflects Citi’s commitment to strengthening its workforce strategy while fostering a people-centric culture.

Dr. Tooba’s Professional Journey

With over 19 years of experience in human resources, Dr. Tooba has held key leadership roles at Citi since 2008.

Her career spans HR strategy, talent management, diversity and inclusion (DEI), and performance management.

Some of her notable roles include:

  • CHRO for Citi Malaysia, where she led HR operations and workforce transformation.
  • HR Business Partner for Retail and Institutional Banking in India, focusing on talent engagement and leadership development.
  • Head of Talent, Performance Management, Learning, and DEI for the Bank and GCC, driving employee growth and inclusion initiatives.

Dr. Tooba succeeds Aditya Mittal, who retired after over 30 years at Citi.

Her leadership is expected to bring fresh perspectives to Citi’s HR strategy, ensuring alignment with evolving business priorities.
