Oil India Appoints Dr. Ankur Baruah as Director-HR

Oil India Limited (OIL), a Maharatna Central Public Sector Enterprise under the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, has announced the appointment of Dr. Ankur Baruah as its new Director of Human Resources (HR).

This significant development marks a new chapter in the company’s journey, as Ankur brings with him a wealth of experience and expertise in human resource management.

His appointment, effective from April 16, 2025, has been approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) and will continue until his superannuation on February 29, 2028, or until further orders.

Oil India Director HR Selection Process and Vision for HR Division

Ankur’s selection as Director (HR) followed a rigorous recruitment process conducted by the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB).

On January 15, 2025, the PESB interviewed 12 candidates for the position, ultimately recommending Ankur for the role.

The ACC’s approval further solidified his appointment, reflecting the confidence in his ability to lead OIL’s HR division.

As Director (HR), Ankur is expected to focus on workforce development, organizational transformation, and employee welfare.

His strategic, people-first approach aims to align HR initiatives with OIL’s business objectives, fostering growth, inclusivity, and organizational resilience.

Ankur’s leadership will actively strengthen OIL’s position as a key player in the energy sector.

A Distinguished Career, Recognition and Achievements

Ankur’s professional journey spans over three decades, during which he has demonstrated strategic leadership and in-depth expertise in various HR functions.

Prior to his elevation, he served as the Executive Director (HR) at Oil India Limited, where he played a pivotal role in driving transformative HR initiatives.

His contributions have significantly enhanced the company’s reputation as a leader in the energy sector.

An alumnus with an MBA in Human Resources and a PhD in Business Administration, Ankur is also certified in IPMA Project Management and accredited in Psychometric Testing.

His diverse skill set encompasses manpower planning, talent acquisition, performance management, stakeholder engagement, and change management.

Ankur’s contributions to the field of human resources have earned him several prestigious accolades, including the titles of “Most Iconic HR Leader,” “Topmost HR Leader in Asia,” and the “HR Excellence Award.”

He has also represented Oil India Limited on numerous national and international HR platforms, underlining his standing as a thought leader in the industry.
