The Andhra Pradesh government has announced an ambitious target to create 5 lakh jobs in the Information Technology (IT) sector over the next five years.

This initiative, led by the Minister for Education, IT, and Electronics, Nara Lokesh, aims to establish the state as a leading IT hub and attract major industries.

Andhra Pradesh Government’s Vision and Strategy

Minister Nara Lokesh emphasized the government’s commitment to creating an ecosystem conducive to IT companies.

He highlighted the return of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) to Visakhapatnam and ongoing efforts to secure an Infosys branch.

The government is also in discussions with various IT companies to set up their units in the state.

To achieve this target, the government plans to expand IT spaces to Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities and create co-working spaces.

A new IT policy is in the works, and efforts are being made to resolve issues related to data security and taxation to attract more investments.

A significant part of the strategy involves setting up data centers in Visakhapatnam.

The government is in talks with National Internet Exchange of India (NIXI) and other stakeholders to bring a sea-landing Internet cable from Singapore.

The Minister expressed confidence that a national-level data policy would encourage more data companies to invest in the state.

Collaboration with Industry Leaders

Lokesh has held discussions with representatives of top IT companies and is optimistic about their participation in the state’s growth.

He also mentioned that at least two data companies are expected to set up their units in Visakhapatnam in the coming months.

The Minister stressed the need for cooperation from legislators and influential Telugu individuals to attract global IT companies.

The Minister criticized the previous government’s policies, which he claimed hindered the growth of the IT sector.

He pointed out that several companies had withdrawn their plans due to the previous administration’s demands for shares and bribes.

Lokesh highlighted that the state had lost significant opportunities during that period.

The Bhogapuram airport project is progressing rapidly.

With plans to establish the biggest convention center in the country, Visakhapatnam is poised to become a major IT destination.

The Minister is confident that the government’s initiatives will create a robust IT ecosystem and generate substantial employment opportunities.
