Andhra Pradesh has launched the country’s largest green skilling initiative aimed at building a future-ready workforce for the solar and wind energy sectors.
The programme was formally unveiled on August 6, 2025, during a dedicated event held in Vijayawada.
The event was titled “Empowering India’s Green Future: Andhra Pradesh as the Talent Hub for Solar and Wind Energy.”
Jointly organized by the Andhra Pradesh State Skill Development Corporation (APSSDC) and Swaniti Initiative, the event brought together over 250 industry leaders, senior government officials, and development partners to chart a roadmap for clean energy workforce development.
Training Thousands for a Renewable Future
The initiative is designed to train thousands of youth across Andhra Pradesh in renewable energy technologies.
It focuses on key areas such as manufacturing, installation, operations, and maintenance of solar and wind energy systems.
Andhra Pradesh has an estimated potential of 38 GW in solar energy and 14 GW in wind energy.
Leveraging this capacity, the state is positioning itself as both a production hub and a global exporter of clean energy talent.
Keynote addresses were delivered by Nara Lokesh, Minister for HRD, IT, Electronics & Communication, and Real Time Governance, and Gottipati Ravi Kumar, Minister of Energy.
Both leaders emphasized the state’s commitment to a skills-first, innovation-driven economy under the leadership of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.
Equity and Inclusion at the Core
A defining feature of the initiative is its focus on equity and inclusion.
The conference featured dedicated sessions focused on strategies for inclusive participation in the renewable energy sector.
These sessions explored ways to integrate tribal youth, women-led Self-Help Groups (SHGs), and green micro-entrepreneurs into emerging opportunities.
Officials emphasized that the programme goes beyond traditional skilling efforts. It is a mission aimed at empowering youth to take leadership roles in India’s green revolution.
To ensure alignment between training and industry needs, the event included the launch of a Private Sector Green Skilling Taskforce.
This taskforce will focus on synchronizing Andhra Pradesh’s skilling ecosystem with both national and international clean energy markets.
Andhra Pradesh Building a Resilient Workforce
The outcomes of the conference will inform the development of Andhra Pradesh’s Green Skill Development Roadmap, focused on modernizing training infrastructure and aligning it with industry needs.
This roadmap also aims to scale skilling programmes across districts and build a resilient workforce to support India’s clean energy transition.
Three high-impact panel discussions featured industry giants and policymakers collaborating to shape a demand-driven, industry-aligned workforce development strategy.
Policymakers and industry leaders expect these discussions to guide future investments in skilling and infrastructure, setting a national benchmark for sustainable, livelihood-driven development.
