Gender diversity is improving at a faster pace across India’s top IT firms

According to reports, a diverse workforce can capture a greater share of the consumer market. Fortunately, gender diversity is improving at a faster pace across India’s top companies.

As per Q3FY22 results, IT services firms like Tata Consultancy Services, Infosys, Wipro, Tech Mahindra, Mphasis, and Mindtree have reported an increasing number of women employees in their workforce.

  • Tech Mahindra- The gender diversity ratio has improved by 5% in the last two quarters, making 34.2% of the total headcount of 150,000 to be women.
  • Wipro– It has employee base of 231,000, 36.3% of which are women. The company has also set a target to hire 50% women as part of its campus placements.
  • TCS- Over the last four years, nearly 34%-40% of hires at TCS have been women. Currently, the company has over 200,000 women employees making it 36.5% of its total workforce. 
  • Infosys- The company has 40% women in the workforce at the end of the December quarter for FY22.
  • Mphasis- Currently it has a 65:35 men to women ratio in the workforce. The company is set to increase the number of women employees in the coming quarters. 
  • Mindtree– It has its focus set on hiring for women at managerial positions and is building sponsorship networks for women. The company is hiring around 50% of women from campuses. 

Rajesh Gopinathan, Chief Executive Officer, TCS said, “Important milestone is that the number of women in our workforce crossed 200,000. Beyond that headline number, it is also an occasion to celebrate the progress we are making in creating a more diverse and inclusive workplace.”

Sunita Cherian, Chief Culture Officer & Senior Vice President, Corporate Human Resources, Wipro said, “We are proud to achieve 36.3% of women in our workforce. At Wipro, we believe that a truly inclusive workplace requires transparency and consistency in efforts that challenge stereotypes and biases at work while creating a strong network of allies.”

Harshvendra Soin, Global Chief People Officer & Head of Marketing, Tech Mahindra, said, “At Tech Mahindra, we appreciate differences based on age, ethnicity, race, lifestyle, and social status and have designed a series of programs, policies, and initiatives to promote diversity.”

“We have endeavoured to create a psychologically safe ecosystem where associates are connected through human-centred experiences.
