An Indian multinational information technology services and consulting company, Tata Consultancy Services Ltd (TCS) said women attrition was higher than that of men likely due to the return-to-office policy, IT giant said in its Integrated Annual Report for 2022-23.

Milind Lakkad, Chief Human Resources Officer at TCS said “Historically, the attrition among women employees — who constitute over 35 percent of our workforce of over 600,000 — has been lower or similar to that of men.”

“..I would think working from home during the pandemic reset the domestic arrangements for some women, keeping them from returning to office even after everything normalized,” he said.

“This speaks well of the quality of the women candidates in our leadership pool as well as the supportive attitudes of our business leaders in promoting diversity,” he added.

However, the annual report did not specify the attrition based on gender but the company’s overall attrition peaked in the middle of the fiscal gone by and came down to over 20 percent at the end of March.

Earlier, Milind Lakkad, Chief HR Officer, said, “As we grow the TCS family, I want to call out the stellar role played by our recruitment team in swiftly scaling up hiring, and onboarding the best available talent, enabling TCS to meet its delivery commitments and capture growth.”

“We are honoring all job offers, and have added 22,600 employees on a net basis in FY 23. During the year, we onboarded over 44K freshers and our highest-ever number of experienced professionals. We also doubled down on organic talent development, obtaining over 53K cloud certifications during the year, bringing the total to over 110K employees certified on hyper scaler platforms. This places us among the top 2 partners for the largest cloud providers”, he added.

Moreover, the TCS initiative for experienced women professionals re-entering the workforce after a break “Rebegin” have seen nearly 14,000 job applications in FY23. Additionally, the company has focused on leadership development programmes like ‘iExcel’ are driving change on this front. The annual report said the flagship executive leadership development programme for women has completed 22 editions and 1,450 women leaders have benefitted from it.

The company’s headcount as of March 31, 2023, stood at 6,14,795. In the previous quarter, TCS in Q3FY23 posted a decline of 2,197 people in its employee base, and TCS headcount stood at 613,974 as on December 31, 2022.
