The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), under the Department of Space (DoS), has opened applications for its 2025 Internship Scheme and Student Project Trainee Scheme, offering undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral students hands‑on experience in cutting‑edge space science and technology.

According to ISRO’s official portal, the Internship Scheme is open to Indian citizens pursuing a UG/PG/PhD degree (or recently graduated within six months) from recognised Indian or foreign universities.

Applicants must have a minimum of 60% marks or a CGPA of 6.32/10. Internship durations are up to 45 days.

The Student Project Trainee Scheme allows deeper engagement through project‑oriented training based on scholars’ academic levels:

  • Engineering (B.E/B.Tech): after 6th semester; minimum 45‑day projects
  • ME/MTech & MSc: post‑first semester; minimum 120 days
  • BSc/Diploma: final year; minimum 45 days
  • PhD: coursework completed; up to 30 months

All candidates must meet the 60%/6.32 CGPA requirement.

Applications are evaluated at the respective ISRO Centres based on project availability, student suitability, and expertise of hosting divisions. Selections follow internal scrutiny; internships and projects are offered on a non‑remunerative, non‑residential basis.

While ISRO does not provide accommodation or stipend, some centres may offer guest house or hostel arrangements at employee‑equivalent charges. Interns also enjoy canteen access and receive certificates upon satisfactory completion.

ISRO emphasises that project assignments are strictly in unclassified areas. Any intention to publish work externally requires prior Centre approval.

The schemes encompass various Centres, including U.R. Rao Satellite Centre (URSC), Space Applications Centre (SAC), Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC), Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS), National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC), Master Control Facility (MCF), Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre (LPSC), Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC), ISTRAC, and others.

Beyond internships, ISRO offers several engagement programs for students: STEM portals, YUVIKA for schoolchildren, UNNATI nanosatellite training, remote sensing workshops, virtual labs, and academic satellite initiatives.

Those interested should assess eligibility, project alignment, and timelines on the relevant Centre’s website.

Internship dates and application windows may vary by Centre—for example, MCF typically accepts applications between August and October Indian Space Research Organization.

Conclusion

ISRO’s 2025 Internship and Student Project Trainee Schemes provide valuable experiential opportunities for Indian science and engineering students.

With rigorous eligibility norms and structured project durations, the programmes are poised to foster the next generation of space professionals, support India’s growing space ambitions, and contribute to national development through technology and skills.
