Zoho CEO Sridhar Vembu Dismisses Talent Migration Concerns

Amid rising concerns over the migration of India’s top talent, Zoho Corporation CEO Sridhar Vembu has expressed a unique perspective, stating that he is not alarmed by the trend.

Instead, he views it as a sign of India’s rapid development and growing aspirations.

Zoho CEO Sridhar Vembu’s Perspective on Talent Migration

Sridhar’s comments come in response to the ongoing debate over the H-1B visa and the increasing number of high-net-worth individuals (HNIs) leaving India.

While many view this as a brain drain, Vembu sees it as a natural part of a country’s growth trajectory.

He compared the current situation to historical patterns observed in nations like Korea, Taiwan, and Japan, where talent migration peaked during periods of rapid economic development.

According to Sridhar, talent migration tends to be low in countries that are either extremely underdeveloped or very wealthy.

However, it peaks during periods of rapid economic growth, driven by rising aspirations.

He pointed out that this phenomenon is evident in Silicon Valley. Indian migrants there now significantly outnumber those from China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan.

Urban Tech Hubs and Restlessness

Sridhar highlighted that restlessness is primarily observed in urban tech hubs in India, where aspirations often race ahead of reality.

He believes that this restlessness is a sign of a country on the brink of significant economic transformation.

As India continues to develop, Sridhar predicts that the rate of talent migration will naturally decline.

Drawing parallels with Japan and Korea, Sridhar expressed optimism about India’s long-term trajectory.

He noted that even in the 1980s, Japanese people were reluctant to believe their country had achieved parity with the West.

A similar sentiment was observed in Korea in the late 1990s.

Sridhar predicts that by 2035, India’s per capita GDP will exceed $10,000. Despite this achievement, he believes Indians will still feel they have a long way to go.
