Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has outlined a transformative vision for the future of work, where digital employees—AI-powered agents—will operate alongside biological employees in enterprise environments.

Speaking in recent interviews, Jensen emphasized that these AI agents will not merely assist humans but will be formally hired, trained, and integrated into company cultures.

He referred to this emerging category as agentic AI, estimating its market potential to reach trillions of dollars.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if you license some and you hire some, depending on the quality and deep expertise,” Jensen stated, suggesting that AI agents could take on roles traditionally held by professionals such as nurses, lawyers, and engineers.

IT Departments to Serve as HR for AI Agents

One of the most striking predictions from Jensen is the evolving role of IT departments.

Traditionally focused on infrastructure and systems, IT teams will become responsible for managing digital employees.

This includes overseeing their onboarding, training, performance, and integration into workflows.

Jensen explained that AI agents will need to absorb a company’s culture and values, much like human employees.

This shift will require enterprises to redefine organizational structures and develop new protocols for managing both human and AI workers.

Internal Use of AI Tools at Nvidia Reflects the Vision

At Nvidia, the integration of digital tools into daily operations is already underway.

Jensen revealed that all Nvidia employees use AI models from at least one of six startups: OpenAI, Harvey, Cursor, Replit, OpenEvidence, and Lovable.

These platforms support various functions:

  • Engineers and chip designers use Cursor to enhance productivity
  • Legal and research teams rely on Harvey and OpenEvidence
  • Replit and Lovable assist in coding and creative tasks

This internal adoption reflects Huang’s belief that digital employees are not a distant concept but an active part of today’s enterprise landscape.

Implications for Workforce Strategy and Enterprise Design

The rise of agentic AI will reshape workforce planning, talent acquisition, and enterprise operations.

Companies will need to establish frameworks for hiring, licensing, and managing AI agents, including ethical guidelines, accountability standards, and performance metrics.

Jensen’s vision suggests a shift in how businesses measure productivity and scale.

With AI agents capable of continuous operation and rapid adaptation, enterprises may achieve new levels of efficiency.

However, this transformation will require coordination across IT, HR, and leadership teams to ensure seamless collaboration between human and digital workers5.
