India’s largest passenger airline, IndiGo has hiked the salaries by 8% for the second time in 2022. This will be effective from August 1.

However, even after Thursday’s 8% increase, the salaries remain lower than the pre-Covid levels.

IndiGo has also decided to restore overtime allowance for pilots to the pre-Covid level. Earlier, the airline on March 31 announced that the pilots’ salaries have been increased by 8 percent given the continuous steady flight operations.

IndiGo had effected a 28% salary cut for pilots in 2020 following Covid-led restrictions. However, the salaries remain lower than the pre-Covid levels.

In internal communication, IndiGo said, “We were able to reinstate 8%, effective April 1, 2022, and had committed to you that an additional 6.5% would be implemented from November 1, 2022, based on the environment.”

“Subsequently, based on your feedback and enhanced stability in our commercial network, we were able to reinstate layover and deadlock allowances to pre-covid levels effective July 1, 2022”, it further said.

This move came after Indigo‘s more than 50% of flights were delayed on Saturday. The delay was caused due to the sudden absence of a large number of IndiGo employees. The pay hike also comes at a time when the air traffic is improving.

The IndiGo crew members took mass Sick Leave on Air India recruitment day. TATA-owned Air India’s phase-2 recruitment drive was conducted on Saturday. The delays also happened on the same day when Air India conducted a recruitment drive for similar roles across different centers.

Flight operations at the airline returned to normal on Sunday. In comparison, to other airline groups a majority of the Air India, SpiceJet, Vistara, Go First and AirAsia India flights left on time.

Since the airline’s inception in August 2006, the organization has grown from a carrier with one plane to a fleet of 280 aircraft today.

A uniform fleet for each type of operation, high operational reliability, and award-winning service make it one of the most reliable airlines in the world.

IndiGo has a total destination count of 90+ destinations with 70+ domestic destinations and 20+ International destinations.
