Tata Electronics Appoints Industry Veteran KC Ang as Foundry Head

Tata Electronics Private Limited (TEPL), a pioneer in India’s electronics and semiconductor manufacturing sector, has announced the appointment of KC Ang as the President and Head of Tata Semiconductor Manufacturing Private Limited (TSMPL).

This strategic move underscores Tata Electronics’ commitment to establishing itself as a global leader in semiconductor manufacturing.

KC Ang, a seasoned industry veteran with over three decades of experience, will report directly to Dr. Randhir Thakur, CEO and Managing Director of Tata Electronics.

Role and Responsibilities at Tata Electronics

As the President and Head of TSMPL, KC Ang will spearhead the company’s advanced AI-enabled foundry operations.

His responsibilities include driving innovation, forming strategic partnerships, and ensuring operational excellence.

Ang will play a pivotal role in positioning Tata Semiconductor Manufacturing as a global leader in chip production, with a focus on cutting-edge technologies and sustainable practices.

Commenting on his appointment, KC Ang expressed enthusiasm about joining Tata Electronics at a transformative time for India’s semiconductor industry.

“This sector is poised to make a significant global impact in the coming years, and I look forward to leveraging my experience to drive Tata Semiconductor Manufacturing to the forefront of global chip manufacturing,” he said.

KC Ang’s Professional Journey

KC Ang brings a wealth of expertise in the semiconductor foundry industry, specializing in fab start-ups, management, operations, and technology transfer.

His illustrious career spans multiple countries, including Malaysia, Germany, the United States, and China.

Before joining Tata Electronics, Ang held the roles of President (Asia) and Chairman (China) at GlobalFoundries.

He spent over 15 years at this global leader in semiconductor manufacturing.

Born in Malaysia, KC Ang holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from National Taiwan University and a Master’s degree in Engineering from the University of Texas.

His extensive experience and global perspective make him an ideal candidate to lead Tata Semiconductor Manufacturing’s ambitious initiatives.

Strategic Importance of the Appointment

The appointment of KC Ang comes at a pivotal moment for Tata Electronics. The company is ramping up its efforts to strengthen India’s semiconductor ecosystem.

The company is investing ₹91,000 crore in India’s first high-tech chip manufacturing plant in Dholera, Gujarat.

This facility is expected to produce 50,000 wafers monthly, catering to sectors such as electric vehicles, telecommunications, and defense.

The company is investing ₹27,000 crore in a testing and packaging facility in Assam. This facility will have the capacity to produce 48 million chips every day.

Dr. Randhir Thakur, CEO and MD of the company, welcomed KC Ang to the team.

He stated, “We are delighted to have an industry veteran like KC Ang join us and be part of the team driving our semiconductor journey.”

“His extensive industry knowledge and diverse expertise will be invaluable as we make steady progress towards commencing operations at our Dholera Fab,” Dr. Randhir added.
