Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has promoted Swarna Sudha Selvaraj to the role of Head – HR, AI & Data, marking a significant milestone in her 18-year journey with the company.
Swarna’s new role will encompass end-to-end HR responsibilities, integrating talent strategy with AI and data initiatives across the organization.
Her appointment comes at a time when TCS is deepening its focus on digital talent development and workforce modernization.
Career Journey at TCS and Prior Experience
Swarna joined TCS in September 2006 as a Learning Executive, following five years with the Murugappa Group, where she served as:
- Industrial Social Worker at EID Parry India
- Executive – Training & Development at Tube Investments of India Corporate Training Centre
Her early years at TCS saw rapid progression:
- Elevated to Head – Learning & Development, BFSI within two years, overseeing leadership and competency development for over 45,000 employees globally
- Appointed Regional Head – L&D in 2014
- Became Head – Learning Platforms & Content Solutions in 2015
- Took charge as Talent Development Head – Europe, UK & Ireland in 2016, based in London
- Returned to Chennai in 2021 as Head – Talent Development, Strategic Programmes
- Briefly led Post-Offer Engagement for India Graduates
- Most recently served as Global Head – Talent Development, AI.Cloud from October 2023 to June 2025
Her career reflects a blend of learning strategy, digital enablement, and global workforce development, with a strong emphasis on integrating technology into HR practices.
Educational Background
Swarna holds:
- A Master’s in Social Work (MSW) from the Madras School of Social Work, completed in 2001
- A Diploma in Training and Development from the Indian Society for Training and Development (ISTD), earned in 2005
Her academic foundation in social work and training has informed her people-centric approach to HR leadership.
