OpenAI, the artificial intelligence company behind ChatGPT, has officially begun hiring for its first office in India, located in New Delhi.

The company is recruiting senior-level Account Directors across three distinct sales divisions: Digital Natives, Large Enterprise, and Strategics.

This hiring drive marks a significant step in OpenAI’s broader strategy to deepen its presence in India, which has become its second-largest user base globally after the United States.

The roles are part of OpenAI’s effort to build a robust local sales team capable of managing high-value client relationships, driving adoption of AI solutions, and shaping strategic partnerships across sectors.

The New Delhi office is expected to become operational by the end of 2025.

Roles and Responsibilities at Open AI

OpenAI has listed three Account Director positions on its careers portal, each tailored to a specific client segment:

  • Account Director – Digital Natives: This role focuses on managing portfolios of tech-forward clients, including startups and digital-first businesses. Candidates are expected to have at least seven years of experience in Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) or platform sales, with a strong track record of engaging C-level executives and designing scalable AI-driven programs.
  • Account Director – Large Enterprise: Targeting major business clients, this position requires a minimum of ten years’ experience in enterprise sales. The role involves guiding clients through complex AI deployments, managing multimillion-dollar revenue targets, and collaborating with internal teams to align product strategy with customer needs.
  • Account Director – Strategics: This senior role is designed for professionals with over 14 years of experience in sales leadership. It focuses on managing a select group of strategic accounts, overseeing large-scale AI integrations, and contributing to OpenAI’s go-to-market strategy in India.

All three roles are full-time positions with hybrid work flexibility. Employees can work remotely while staying actively engaged with clients and internal teams.

OpenAI Jobs: Application Process and Eligibility

Interested candidates can apply through OpenAI’s official careers page by filtering job listings by location (India).

Each listing includes detailed role descriptions, eligibility criteria, and an “Apply Now” option.

Applicants must submit basic personal information along with their resume.

OpenAI has placed a cap on applications, limiting each candidate to five submissions within a 180-day period.

India as a Priority Market

OpenAI’s decision to establish a physical presence in India reflects the country’s growing importance in the global AI landscape.

ChatGPT usage in India has increased fourfold over the past year. This surge has made India one of the fastest-growing markets for OpenAI’s products.

CEO Sam Altman recently announced plans to visit India in September, stating, “AI adoption in India has been amazing to watch — ChatGPT users grew 4x in the past year — and we are excited to invest much more in India”.

The company has also launched an India-exclusive subscription plan, ChatGPT Go, priced at ₹399 per month.

This plan provides enhanced access to GPT-5 features such as higher message limits, image generation, and memory retention.

These benefits are tailored specifically for users in India.
