After minimal entry-level hiring, India’s IT Industry expects a fresher hiring surge in FY25. The reasons? Increasing deal volumes and reduced attrition.

Tech companies view fresher recruitment as a strategic cost-saving measure. Industry experts predict significant campus hiring, highlighting the importance of investing in and training fresh talent for future capacity and innovation.

This trend reflects the sector’s focus on building a skilled workforce to drive growth and technological advancements.

Tata Consultancy Services

India’s largest software exporter, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), plans to hire around 40,000 freshers in fiscal year 2025, similar to last year, according to CEO and MD K Krithivasan.

This hiring strategy aims to support growing business demands and drive innovation by integrating young, skilled professionals into the workforce, highlighting TCS’s commitment to investing in fresh talent for sustained growth and competitive advantage.

In an Interview with Mony Control, explaining the divergence between slowing headcount despite strong deal pipelines and steady revenue growth, CEO K Krithivasan said, “Trainees undergo 6 to 8 months of internal training before becoming productive and billable, creating a lag.”

He added, “In FY25, we will hire a very similar number of freshers as the year before,” emphasizing TCS’s commitment to integrating fresh talent despite the temporary slowdown in headcount growth.

Milind Lakkad, Chief Human Relations Officer (CHRO), said that Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) will maintain its hiring momentum, matching previous levels. “Even in FY23, we made substantial gross additions. We anticipate FY25 to surpass FY24,” Lakkad said in an interview with Business Standard.

HCLTech

HCLTech plans to recruit over 10,000 fresh graduates from campuses for the fiscal year 2025.

Recently, Ramachandran Sundararajan, Chief People Officer at HCLTech said, “In FY24, our initial target was to hire around 15,000 freshers. Despite volatility, we added over 12,000. We had to recalibrate fresher hiring plans due to market fluctuations.”

“In this fiscal year, we anticipate hiring to remain consistent, aiming for over 10,000 freshers for FY25. This reaffirms our commitment to campus programs and fresher hiring initiatives,” stated Ramachandran Sundararajan, Chief People Officer at HCLTech.

HCLTech plans to prioritize internal fulfillment for meeting demand, resorting to contractual and lateral hiring only when necessary, signaling a strategic shift in its approach to workforce management.
