India’s biggest firms reported a sharp surge in IT hiring
According to media reports, post-pandemic, IT companies across the world are witnessing a digital talent shortage, they are now facing the prospect of a supply shortfall, setting IT services companies on a hiring mode.
India’s top four IT companies – TCS, Infosys, Wipro, and HCL Technologies – plan to recruit 91,000 freshers in the next 12 months as demand has now increased after the lockdown is now ending. Many firms also taking to announcing pay hikes and promotions to ensure they have enough talent to deliver on the deals.
All the four companies reported sequential revenue growth in the third quarter on account of higher investments toward cloud computing, artificial intelligence and internet of things, and new deals. Infosys posted the highest 5.5% growth in top line, followed by TCS, Wipro and HCL Tech.
Today, Infosys said, it will accelerate hiring in the U.S. and Europe, after Trump-era immigration curbs forced the Asian tech-services giant and its rivals to overhaul their traditional reliance on serving global clients with Indian talent.
Last year, India saw hiring activities decline due to the coronavirus pandemic. Now, according to professional recruitment services firm Michael Page India’s ‘Talent Trends 2021 Report’, 53 per cent of companies say they are planning to increase their headcounts in 2021.
Over 74 per cent of technology companies in India expect a 14 per cent rise in headcount and are open to considering talent remotely available, offering flexibility to the right candidate under the hybrid work model.
Wipro’s Chief HR officer Saurabh Govil has stated that a talent war will be taking place in the IT sector as companies have increased their hiring in the last two quarters. He said, “It is all about the demand. The way we have been hiring in the last few months…more demand means more opportunities.”
With businesses going virtual, demand for IT services has shot up, which has led to an uptick in hiring for hardware and software professionals, according to jobs portal Naukri.com. “The IT-sector remains one of the least impacted sectors in terms of hiring from the global pandemic,” Naukri.com said in a report released on November 19.
The sector saw upward month-over-month recovery for job listings on Naukri.com, peaking in September for both hardware (63%) and software roles (20%).
According to start-up placement firm Vahan, the demand for blue-collar workers is back to 100 per cent of pre-COVID-19 levels in the food and grocery delivery segment in the post lockdown phase and the delivery sector is now creating 2.5 lakh-3 lakh delivery jobs every single month buoyed by IPL and the festive season.
