Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), India’s largest IT services firm, is set to significantly expand its footprint in West Bengal with the construction of a new campus in the Bengal Silicon Valley Hub.

The project, which has received formal approval from the New Town Kolkata Development Authority (NKDA), is expected to generate 25,000 direct employment opportunities upon completion.

The announcement was made by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

She hailed the development as a major milestone in Bengal’s push for IT-led growth and inclusive economic development.

TCS Project Overview: Two-Phase Development Plan

The new TCS campus will be developed in two phases over a 20-acre plot in New Town, Kolkata:

  • Phase I: Will include the construction of 9 lakh sq ft of world-class infrastructure, including an 11-storey office tower, and is expected to create 5,000 jobs.
  • Phase II: Will add another 15 lakh sq ft of built-up space, generating 20,000 additional jobs.

Once both phases are complete, the campus will span 24 lakh sq ft, making it one of the largest IT facilities in the region.

Strategic Significance: Bengal’s IT Ambitions Take Center Stage

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee emphasized that the project is a testament to Bengal’s emergence as a hub of innovation, investment, and inclusive growth.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), she stated, “To those who relentlessly malign Bengal and wilfully ignore the strides we are making, let this be a reminder of our capacity to deliver. Bengal means business, and the world is taking note.”

The announcement comes at a time when the state is actively courting investments in technology, data centers, and digital services.

The Bengal Silicon Valley Hub, launched in 2018, has already attracted several major players. It is now poised to become a national IT powerhouse.

TCS’s Broader Expansion Strategy

The Bengal expansion is part of TCS’s larger national growth strategy. The company is simultaneously scaling operations in Bengaluru, Kochi, Hyderabad, Coimbatore, and Visakhapatnam.

TCS already employs over 55,000 people in West Bengal, including at its Gitanjali Park campus.

Its continued investment highlights the company’s strong confidence in the region’s talent pool and infrastructure.

In FY25, TCS reported consolidated revenues of $30.18 billion. The company also posted a 6% rise in net profit and maintained an operating margin of 24.3%.

The company added 6,433 employees during the year, bringing its global workforce to nearly 608,000.
