Over 4 Lakhs employees lost Jobs in 2023

The year 2023 has been a year of layoffs. Some companies have skipped or rethinking on-campus hiring. However, Over 4 Lakhs employees lost Jobs in 2023.

So far in 2023, there have been 1,822 layoffs at tech companies with 402,567 people impacted (1,270 people per day). In 2022, there were 1,557 layoffs at tech companies and 243,318 people impacted (667 people per day).

The move of layoffs is part of a larger trend of tech companies cutting jobs and slowing hiring as investors become increasingly fearful of a recession. Tech companies have either frozen the hiring process or laid off many employees. 

Amazon sacked 27,000 employees in three months. The major companies that laid off employees include Infosys, Amazon, Google, Byju’s, Wipro, and Salesforce laid off a maximum number of workers globally. During these layoffs, companies have also sacked the HR recruitment teams.

LinkedIn sacks employees from its recruitment team

Earlier in February, The Microsoft-owned professional networking and recruiting platform, LinkedIn started laying off employees from its recruiting team amid a global economic downturn.

Moreover, some former employees from LinkedIn’s recruiting team have also taken to the online recruitment-offering site to announce their departure.

Uber laid off 35% of its recruiting team

Earlier in June, According to the Wall Street Journal, The job cuts affected 35 percent of Uber’s recruiting team. The decision to downsize was driven by the company’s ongoing efforts to optimize operations and improve cost efficiency. 

Amazon layoffs in HR

Amazon in April began laying off some employees in its cloud computing and human resources divisions. The layoffs were part of the previously announced job cuts that are expected to affect 9,000 employees. 

Google parent Alphabet laid off hundreds of employees from HR team

As per the report, Recently in September Alphabet announced its decision to fire employees from its global recruiting team. However, it affected “a few hundred” employees.
